Yu Darvish Expects Tommy John Surgery In His Future

SURPRISE, ARIZ. (CBSDFW.COM) - Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish is contemplating ligament reconstruct surgery after an MRI revealed that the Rangers pitcher has a sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow.

Darvish left his first start of spring training after one inning on Thursday, and underwent the MRI by team physician Dr. Keith Meister on Friday.

The Rangers and Darvish will consult other orthopedic surgeons in the next several days before deciding is surgery is needed.

Darvish released the following statement through the team on Saturday Morning, "I will be disappointed if I have to miss this season, but I want to look at all the options including getting a second opinion, before I make a final decision. In the meantime, my heart is with my teammates, and our focus remains on accomplishing our goals for the season."

CBS 11's Bill Jones is at Rangers Spring Training in Surprise, Arizona. He will have live reports tonight at 6 and 10pm on CBS 11 News.
