Police: Woman Killed By Random Gunfire While In Her Car In Dallas
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A 65-year-old woman was shot and killed by random gunfire while in her car in Dallas early Thursday morning, police say.
The woman was identified as Carolyn J. Parrish.
Police say the shooting happened at around 12:20 a.m. in the 1300 block of Grinnell Street.
Parrish's son, Kia McAfee says his mom was shot because she refused to leave her two dogs. Kia says his family moved in two weeks ago, and he didn't want his mom's two chihuahuas inside the house because they shed. He says his mom loved her dogs so much that she preferred to sleep in her car outside the home.
Officials responded to the scene and pronounced her dead. Police say she was killed by random gunfire, and that they found shells further up the street.
The family heard gunshots through the evening and went outside to check on Parrish. McAfee found her unresponsive in a locked car that was still running.
The family heard gun shots for severals hours but never thought their mother was hurt.
Officers have been checking neighbors' surveillance for any clues, but so far, nothing, and no arrests.
