HOUSTON (AP) — A 30-year-old woman has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for slamming her SUV into a Harris County sheriff's patrol car, killing a deputy last year.

Kelly Jo Ivey was sentenced Friday in Houston, one day after a Harris County jury found her guilty of intoxication manslaughter. Jurors had the option of sentencing Ivey to 15 years to life in prison.

According to authorities, Ivey was driving near Baytown on Oct. 28, 2014, when she crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the patrol car of 32-year-old Jesse Valdez III.

Valdez was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
