DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A woman in west Dallas died early Tuesday morning during a fire at her home, despite efforts from her husband to save her life. It happened just before 5:00 a.m. in the 1500 block of Dennison Street.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a 911 call about the fire and arrived to find flames shooting from the roof and windows of the single-story house. Once they were battling the blaze from inside of the structure, firefighters found the unresponsive body of an adult female.

Investigators said that three people were inside of the home when the fire first began -- the woman, her husband and another guest. The couple was in their bedroom when the blaze broke out. The husband and guest escaped safely, but the woman was not so lucky.

The victim was later identified as 57-year-old Debura Jackson. Her husband attempted to break a window and get back inside to save his wife, but he cut his arm badly in the process. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to be okay.

Family members at the scene remembered Jackson as a kind person. "She was a beautiful woman. She was a real auntie. She was there for us when we needed her," recalled Courtney Templeton. "When we needed somewhere to lay our head at a time of need, food, she fed us."

The cause of the fire is now under investigation, but family members said that the home's electricity had recently been turned off, and they were using candles to get by. It was not immediately clear if the home had working smoke detectors.
