Woman Dies In Arlington Car Crash

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A crash involving three vehicles in south Arlington early Wednesday morning left one woman dead and three other people injured. The incident happened at about 2:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate-20, near New York Avenue.

Authorities stated that one car somehow struck the rear end of a tanker truck. That crash caused the car's driver to lose control, sending the vehicle into a nearby SUV. The car and the SUV then both left the roadway, slamming into the center median. Four victims had to be extricated from these vehicles -- three from the car and one from the SUV.

The crash scene was located directly underneath the New York Avenue bridge over the highway.

The four victims were taken to nearby hospitals. At least two of the victims went to Medical Center of Arlington, while at least one other victim was transported to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth. The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at Medical Center of Arlington. She has been identified as 57-year-old Elaine Plummer.

The other three victims were all in serious condition when they were taken away from the crash scene. Their names and current conditions are not known. The driver of the tanker truck was not hurt.

Police said that alcohol and speed are both believed to be contributing factors in this incident. No arrests have been made, but authorities said that they are anticipated.

The freeway was shut down for a few hours overnight while police conducted an investigation and crews worked to clean up debris. There was no leak from the tanker truck, which helped in the cleanup efforts. Lanes started to open for traffic again at around 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
