Woman Approached By Fake Rowlett Cop Shares Story

Worried it could happen again, the Rowlett Police Department is warning drivers to be aware of a man impersonating one of their own.
Brittany Williams had an encounter in Irving last week with the phony cop. She was driving down Beltline Road on her way to lunch when she saw flashing police lights in her rear view mirror.
Williams said it looked like a Rowlett police car as the black and white Dodge Charger had the words "Rowlett Police" on its side.
She says a man dressed in uniform with a police patch on his sleeve walked up to her car and told her he had a warrant out for her arrest and that she needed to get out of the car.
"He had the gun, he had the badge, he had the flashlight," says Williams. "He had everything he needed to look like a real cop. But when he immediately started telling me I had a warrant out for my arrest. He refused to give me his information or tell me why I was pulled over. I knew something wasn't right."
Williams did what police are telling people to do if they have any doubts when an officer pulls them over. She called 9-1-1. When she told the fake officer what she was doing, he took off.
