Mother, 2 Children Dead In North Texas Wrong-Way Crash

ALVARADO, Texas (AP) — Authorities say at least three people have been killed — two of them children — in a North Texas traffic wreck where it appears a pickup truck was traveling on the wrong side of a four-lane highway.
Police in Alvarado say the pickup was on U.S. Highway 67 when it collided with a car early Sunday.
The driver of the car was a 22-year-old Maranda Abshire. She was killed in the accident Her two sons, 5-year-old Adrian, 2-year-old Cruz, were also killed.
A third unidentified child survived and was taken by helicopter to a hospital.
Just before the wreck happened Alvarado police say they got a call about a pick up traveling in the wrong direction on I 35 and highway 67.
Police believe the man driving the pickup may have been intoxicated.
"We believe alcohol was involved because of what we found at the scene," says Alavardo's Police Chief . "There were several cans and bottles of beer open and unopened in the cab of the vehicle the suspect was driving."
The single mom, worked at chili's and she had just left her grandfathers home when they were hit head on by the pickup truck.
Eldon Abshire took care of his great-grandson's 5 days a week, when Miranda was working, and they were both in his lap just hours before the wreck.
"Cruz was on the side and Adrian was on the side. They slept with me last night until their mother came home. They always slept with me," says Great-Grandfather Eldon. "Only the good Lord knows how close we were."
Police are waiting for blood alcohol test results.
They say the wrong way driver lives in Fort Worth.
He's in the hospital now and has not yet been charged with a crime.
