Welding Sparks To Blame In West Dallas Development Fire
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A 2-alarm fire ripped through part of a west Dallas development project around 4:00 p.m. Saturday near Sylvan Avenue and Fort Worth Avenue.
The project, called Sylvan | Thirty, is for the development of retail shops and apartments in the area.
A spokesman for Dallas Fire-Rescue said the commercial building was under construction at the time of the fire.
The cause of the blaze was attributed to workers who were welding inside the structure, but has been ultimately ruled accidental.
A spark from the welding is believe to have been picked up by the wind and landed on combustible materials, igniting.
The 2-alarm fire took about an hour to put out with roughly 40 first-responders at the scene.
The building is a total loss, according to fire investigators.
