FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - This week's Wednesday's Warriors features three-year-old Ryan Mims of Fort Worth.
What's it like to find out your child has leukemia? The Mims family shares there story.
Christina and Matt Mims got the news February 16.
Ryan hadn't been feeling or looking right and within hours, blood test results showed very high risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In that instant, the life they knew was gone.
"We started chemo the next day, we had surgery the first day. It's so much to take in," said Matt Mims. "You're thinking that your son or child has this illness that could be terminal. Watching him go through everything and being as little as he is, sometimes is really hard for me."
But Ryan's courage and spirit help keep mom and dad calm.
With his immune system weak, family fun is mostly limited to home... The new home the family moved to so Ryan could be close to the hospital.
"We sold our house and we live in an apartment and we really don't care," said Christina.
They're at the intersection of a life they never imagined.
"It's definitely slowed me down and made me cherish every day I have with my family," she said.
