NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - This week's Wednesday's Warrior features a story of strength and courage from a toddler battling leukemia.

Adalynn Hawkins has battled leukemia for the last seven months. But the chance to fight was nearly taken from her, on the day she was diagnosed.

"We roll into the ER, and there's like 18 people in her room. I'm like 'why are all these people here?' " said Adalynn's mother, Melinda Hawkins.

Precious little Adalynn was thrust into a fight for her life, last Thanksgiving at Cook Children's Hospital. The child coded during a medical procedure.

"It was ten minutes of them doing CPR on her," said Melinda.

Ten minutes, may as well have been ten years. What doctors had hoped was just a cold, turned out to be pre b acute lymphoblastic leukemia -- and almost instantly, a life or death moment.

"They called for the crash cart. I'm in the hallway screaming," said Melinda.

Adalynn's father Eddie, was in California visiting relatives during his baby's ordeal.

"I'm yelling, I'm screaming, I run and I'm pacing and I go into my mom's kitchen. I'm on the floor, on my knees, and I'm just begging God not to take her," he said.

And God did not take precious Adalynn. She survived, only to move on to her new fight against leukemia with her mother and father beside her every step of the way.

Six months of chemo down, two years to go and one piece of advice for the next family.

"Keep the faith, stay strong, and just try to power through it," said Eddie.
