Weather Service Says Tornado Touched Down "Briefly" In Keller

KELLER (CBSDFW.COM) - Officials with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth have confirmed a tornado touched down in Keller.

A post on the NWS Fort Worth Twitter page said, "Small, brief tornado damage in Keller overnight."

CBS 11 Storm Team Meteorologist Jeff Jamison said the twister was part of the storm cel that blew across northern Tarrant County early this morning.

In the Hidden lakes area of Keller, residents described their streets as being a "mess". One tree was blown down and was found laying over a car. Roof shingles were torn off roofs, several large trees were uprooted and blown into yards, one family's trampoline ended up five houses away.

Cleanup in the area was underway by 11 a.m. Wood chipper could be seen on neighborhood streets, to grind up downed trees and branches. The most serious problem in the area appeared to be roof damage. Tiles could be see strewn up and down streets.

Before lunchtime roofer Stephen Marcantel was in the neighborhood to help. "There's a lot of wind damage, wind damage caused by just [sic] the storm coming through," he said. "You can kind of tell by the direction of the wind, because it's only hitting on one side of the slopes on the homes. That's where the repairs are mostly gonna be – is on one side of the house."

But there were some residents in the subdivisions that escaped unscathed. Marcantel said the storm, "Came in from over here and worked its way… but there are house all throughout here and some houses don't even have damage. The house behind us doesn't have any damage. They just have other neighbors shingles in their backyard."

Keller police confirmed the tornado happened over the Chase Oaks and Hidden Lakes editions. Officials say no one was injured.
