(CBSDFW.COM) -- Several Waxahachie businesses are cleaning up Monday morning after heavy rains and high waters caused flooding downtown.

The front door of the College Street Restaurant and Pub was forced open by flood waters Sunday night, flooding the basement with nearly three feet of water.

Wayne Strickland says the family-run business is employing a flood restoration company to repair the damage, which included a badly damaged AC unit.

Several businesses along College Street were affected, as police say more than two feet of water covered the roadway. Police closed the street around midnight, but not before two drivers became stranded in their vehicles, requiring firefighters to rescue them.

"It was so deep, even a 4-wheel drive truck couldn't come through," said restaurant owner Nici Strickland. "It was like a river running through this street. And if anybody even tried to come through this street they had cops posted so you didn't come down this way, lights, sirens, bullhorns so you didn't come through."

The administrative office of the police headquarters was also flooded, though police do not yet know the extent of the damage.

"We won't know until we get it dried out and see what kind of damage," said Police Chief Wade Goolsby. "I think obviously there's some damage to the lower sheet rock. We'll have to see if that needs to be replaced or dried out. We'll assess that and get the water out of here and get it dried up."
