Wash On Walk-Off: 'They Never Get Old'

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- The Texas Rangers won in walk-off fashion for the fourth time this season on Wednesday night against the Mariners.

Manager Ron Washington has seen his fair share of dramatics in his eight seasons with Texas, but he still takes pleasure in each and every win.

"They never get old," said Washington on 105.3 The Fan's New School on Thursday. "You don't want to wait until that time to get it done, but the game is never over until that 27th out is recorded. They didn't get it last night."

The Rangers (8-7) jumped above .500 for the first time since April 2 on Wednesday night, which doesn't seem like much of an accomplishment -- especially for a team that has won at least 90 games in four straight seasons.

But the team is dealing with a number of injuries to its lineup and rotation -- which Wash says has exceeded expectations.

"It has exceeded the expectations, but you know, they are quality people. They are people that we identified that we feel might be able to give us a chance as long as we give them a chance," said Washington. "That's one thing I can say about the Texas Rangers organization. They give a lot of guys in this organization an opportunity."

While the Rangers understandably struggled offensively against Mariners' ace Felix Hernandez, the club has been inconsistent in scoring runs over the course of the season.

The Rangers have failed to score a single run with Yu Darvish on the mound this season -- that's 22 straight innings without a single run.

"Everyone would like to score runs -- we certainly would," said Wash. "But that's my team and we gonna fight together, and whatever it takes to get a win -- that's all we're looking for."
