KAUFMAN COUNTY(CBS11) - Kaufman County issued a voluntary evacuation order for nearly a dozen families in a rural area south of I-20 near County Road 120 and Hickory Tree Lane.

For these families, the only way out of their neighborhood is across an old wooden bridge. County officials are concerned with the rising water levels the creek that runs below could wash the bridge out.

"I'm getting out tonight because I need to go to work in the morning," said Ray Howey.

Howey has lived in the area for 31 years and said it's hard to recall another spring like this.

He said, "I've never seen it get this wet for this long."

Many of the rural dirt roads in the area were covered with water Monday evening.

Residents said simply driving around has become "dangerous."

While Howey is leaving, county officials said most of the families told them they would stay.
