Vigil Set For Man Killed By Fort Worth Police
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A candlelight vigil is planned for Wednesday night to remember Fort Worth resident Jerry Waller. It was one year ago that police shot and killed the 72-year-old man at his home.
This is a very sad time for the family and neighbors who are organizing the vigil at Waller's home. He was killed on May 28 of last year, when the police arrived at Havenwood Lane to investigate a possible burglary in progress.
Officer R.A. Hoeppner shot and killed Waller that night. Authorities said that the victim pointed a gun at the officer. It was later determined that police had responded to the wrong home.

The victim's daughter released a written statement late on Tuesday. "As we remember Jerry Waller, we know his character shown through in his final moments serving and protecting his family. We are not only suffering because we lost our beloved Jerry. We suffer because we cannot trust a system that promoted dishonesty and perpetuated injustice," the statement read, in part. The candlelight vigil is set for 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday night at Waller's home, located at 404 Havenwood Lane in Fort Worth.
