PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - A woman's heartbreaking story drove Plano police to solve a heartless crime. It was caught on security camera two weeks ago at a Plano convenience store. The video shows Amanda White getting out of her car, and the theft that would occur just minutes later.
"I didn't think about it I walked in the store, and I didn't lock my car," she said.
The 35-year-old had just bought a Chrome book tablet for her twin 13-year-old sons. She said she bought it as a gift for the sacrifices they face while she battles a deadly auto immune disease.
"There's weeks that I don't get out of bed and they take care the house," she explained. "It was something I knew they would really like."
But the tablet was gone less than an hour after she bought it. Thieves pulled up next to her car. One of them stole her purse. The other took the tablet and drove away.
"It's disappointing. It was disappointing. It was a letdown but you just move on."
White was able to walk out in time to document the license plate of the getaway car. When Plano police heard her story, the crime wouldn't be unsolved for long.
"Her situation is heartbreaking and we wanted to work extra hard to make sure we can get her property back," said Officer David Tilley from the Plano Police Department.
The two suspects were soon arrested and charged with burglary. With the help of the camera, police had the evidence they needed to make an arrest, but they were unable to recover the stolen property."
White is happy that police have made an arrest, but doesn't understand why she is forced with yet another hardship.
"It's done. We'll move on. There's nothing you do but move on you keep going."
