Officers arrived at the scene to find that Valles was in the car - and he was unconscious. Officers Nielson and Soto pulled Valles, whose clothing was on fire, from the car and carried him to safety.

The investigation concluded that the only vehicle involved in the crash was traveling east in the 3100 block of I-30 when it left the roadway and struck a steel pillar which supported a highway sign.

Valles was transported by the Mesquite Fire Department to Baylor Hospital of Dallas with burns and internal injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
