McKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) -- Officials have released the identities of two people who were killed in a McKinney house fire on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to the home in the 500 block of Rocky Springs Drive around 1 p.m.

Abrar Khan, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene. Talat Khan, 47, was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas where she later succumbed to her injuries.

A third resident, 77-year-old Miam Amtul, was transported to Baylor Medical Center of McKinney. Her condition is unknown.

"The loss of life due to a fire is always a tragedy, and our thoughts are with the Khan family," said Fire Chief Danny Kistner.

Initial reports indicate that the smoke alarms in the residence were not functioning properly.

The McKinney Fire Department, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, will be going door-to-door in the surrounding neighborhood on Wednesday, April 29, at 5:30 p.m. to check and install smoke alarms, batteries and carbon monoxide alarms.
