Texas universities issue "all-clear" after bomb threats prompt evacuations

ARLINGTON - Several buildings at the University of Texas Arlington and Texas State University were evacuated Monday night after reported bomb threats.

UTA police sent alerts to evacuate Meadow Run, Arlington Hall, West Hall, and Arbor Oaks, just before 7 p.m., urging displaced students to go to the MAC.

"The rest of campus is continuing normal operations. University officials continue to actively assess and investigate these threats," Jeff Carlton, the Executive Director of Communications and Media Relations at UTA, told CBS News Texas around 7:30 p.m.

Around 8:20 p.m., UTA Police gave the all-clear for Meadow Run, Arlington Hall, West Hall and Arbor Oaks, saying students may return to their residences and the campus can resume normal operations.

"UT Arlington has resumed normal operations and issued an all-clear after an investigation determined that threats made earlier to campus were not credible," said Carlton. "Out of caution and a concern for safety, the University had earlier evacuated four apartments and residence halls."

Carlton said the University is making counseling and mental health services available for students who may need support.

Texas State University in San Marcos also investigated an "unsubstantiated bomb threat" on campus Monday evening. Butler Hall College Inn Derrick Hall Jackson Hall Tower Hall were evacuated out of an abundance of caution.

Just before 7:30 p.m., the TXST Office of Emergency Management said the threat was "determined to be unfounded" and cleared students to return to their residence halls.
