AUSTIN (AP) - The University of Texas is launching a program to aid character development in young athletes and help them be positive role models.

The school is set Monday to launch the Center for Sports Leadership and Innovation at a time when national sports figures have been notable for incidents of violence.

The program will work with high school coaches on a training program to help detect and intervene at signs of troubling or violent behavior. It will also develop a program to help college athletes deal with the finances of professional sports.

Texas football coach Charlie Strong has been noted nationally for core values for his team: honesty, treating women with respect, no stealing, no guns and no drugs.
