DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - UNT student, Bobby Kim is struggling to recover from a crime that nearly took his life.

"I'm pretty beat up it kind of hurts to talk kind of hurts to breathe," said Kim.

The 22-year-old was left on the side of the road with broken ribs, a broken arm, and missing and broken teeth by a hit-and-run driver. Kim's UNT roommate Zac Adams was also struck, and hospitalized after the driver sped off. He suffered cuts and a concussion.

"He should've at least check to see if a person was alive… it just seems cold and not remorseful," said Adams about the person responsible.

It's a tough pill to swallow for anyone, especially Kim who's known for having a pleasant smile.

"I don't like to toot my own horn, but people tell me 'you have a good smile you always look happy'," said Kim, who is known for his smile, according to friends and family.

Denton Police have recovered an abandoned pickup truck that they believe hit Kim and Adams.

The hit-and-run caused both college student to miss their fall computer science finals.

"I'm going to have to take next semester off so I can't write with his hand anymore," said Kim.

But it's Kim's smile that friends want to fix first and have started raising money to pay his growing medical bills.

"To seen him in this state… it hurts to see," Adams told CBS11.

Even though police think they have recovered the pick up truck involved in the hit-and-run, they said they still have to determine who was driving it before they can make an arrest.
