UNT Officer Involved In Deadly Shooting Sunday Identified

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The officer involved in the deadly shooting of a UNT student early Sunday morning, December 13 is Cpl. Stephen Bean, 27, who joined the UNT Police Department on Sept. 19, 2011.

Police say 21-year-old Ryan McMillan, of Fort Worth was smashing windows with an ax inside a Denton parking garage early Sunday.

School officials say the man advanced toward the officer before the officer opened fire.

McMillan turned 21 on Saturday.

"The Texas Rangers investigation is still active and we will continue cooperating fully with the Rangers until the investigation is completed," said UNT Police Chief Ed Reynolds. "We look forward to the investigation's conclusion."
