Two Arrested In University Park Fire Captain's Death

ROYSE CITY (CBSDFW.COM) - Royse City police are investigating the suspected murder of a University Park fire captain after officers found him shot to death in a vehicle near Hunt County Road Friday night.

According to police, officers were called to the location in regards to a woman in the roadway attempting to stop vehicles.

When officers arrived, the woman told them her husband had been shot and was in a vehicle near the area. The woman was placed in a police vehicle as officers investigated the area.

Police said they discovered a deceased man in the vehicle with a gunshot wound.

The deceased man was later identified as University Park Fire Captain Robert Poynter.

Police also identified the woman as Robert Poynter's wife, Chacey.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, the Hunt County Sheriff's office, and the Rockwall County Sheriff's office are also helping with the investigation.

Investigators said information provided by the woman was found to be suspicious and conflicting.

Chacey Poynter is in custody at the Rockwall County jail and is charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Police made another arrest after investigators believed there was a third-party subject involved in the fire captain's death.

Information provided to investigators led to a search warrant of Michael Garza's home in Quinlan, Texas

An arrest warrant was issued for Garza with a murder charge.

Police said Garza turned himself in early Sunday morning to the Hunt County Sheriff's Office on the arrest warrant.

This is still an active investigation.
