UFC Vet Lauzon Looking To Collect Another Performance Bonus

DALLAS, Texas (105.3 THE FAN) - When UFC lightweight veteran Joe Lauzon made his UFC debut in 2006 he was fresh off a stint on The Ultimate Fighter facing a big name in Jens Pulver.

It was an opportunity for him to make a name for himself off of the back of an established veteran, and that's exactly what he did, knocking out Pulver in just 48 seconds.

What has followed has been a UFC career as a steady stand out performer, tying the legendary Anderson Silva for most performance bonuses all time with 12. A self professed computer geek, Lauzon fights for the honor of video gamers everywhere when his nerdy predisposition turns to tough guy ruthlessness once the cage door closes.

Listen to Richard Hunter talk to Joe Lauzon about his reputation for bonus collecting and the challenge he's facing tonight:

Tonight, Lauzon will find the roles somewhat reversed from his debut 8 years ago, as fellow Ultimate Fighter alum Michael Chiesa takes on Lauzon in what should be the biggest challenge of his career against the biggest name that he has faced in his short UFC career. A win over Lauzon could mean just as much for Chiesa as Lauzon's victory over Pulver, but Lauzon has no intention of allowing that to happen.

He will, however, be happy to share yet another "fight of the night" performance bonus with Chiesa, as long as it's Lauzon's hand that is raised in victory.

Tonight's four fight main card is headlined by a middleweight contender's bout featuring Gegard Mousasi versus Jacare Sousa, and supported by a pair of hard hitting heavyweight match ups that will include the return of knockout artist Alistair Overeem.

"UFC Fight Night: Jacare vs. Mousasi" airs Friday night at 9:00 pm CT on FOX Sports 1.
