UFC Hall Of Famer Chuck Liddell Predicts Big Upset This Weekend
DALLAS, Texas (105.3 THE FAN) - The way Chuck Liddell sees it, the oddsmakers have tomorrow's UFC light heavyweight title fight all wrong. While they're overwhelmingly favoring Jon Jones, "The Ice Man" says that his protege Glover Teixeira will finish the champion within three rounds.
"Knock out or submission," the UFC Hall of Famer told Richard Hunter in advance of this weekend's UFC 172 pay per view. "It won't go past three."
Listen to Richard Hunter talk to Chuck Liddell about Glover Teixeira's chances in UFC 172's main event:
Liddell actually scored Jones' recent unanimous decision victory over Alexander Gustaffson a draw, and he believes that his former training partner will be the first to stop the man who's held the 205-pound title for the past three years.
Teixeira caught the attention of Liddell and his trainer John Hackelman years ago, and they invited him to train with them at "The Pit". Visa issues, however, kept Teixeira from traveling away from his native Brazil for an extended period of time, delaying his UFC debut until well past his 30th birthday. Now that he's joined the organization, his 20-fight win streak and undefeated UFC record has labeled him a title contender in a very short period of time.
If he defeats Jones on Saturday night, Teixeira will have pulled off one of the biggest title upsets in UFC history. A tall order to be sure, but he can take comfort in knowing that a UFC hall of famer is going on record as predicting that it will happen.
