TXDOT Considering Underground Toll Lanes On Central Expressway

DALLAS (CBSDFW) - A proposal by TXDOT to build managed toll lanes under Central Expressway (Hwy 75) is now set to go before Richardson city council, after going before the Plano city council last week.
The proposal says the subterranean lanes would run from I-635 north to the Hwy 121 interchange.
Tony Hartzel with TXDOT says they're only passing around ideas right now, but those ideas are flowing.
Managed toll lanes aren't regular like toll lanes. Drivers on a managed lane system pay a toll based on how busy the lane is.
A plan to convert HOV lanes to tolled ones was shot down last year.
Hartzel says they got the idea to building under rather than up from the current LBJ project. However, they'll avoid a lawsuit like the one happening now by taking into account the buildings in their path.
There's no estimate yet on what this could cost.
