TX Attorney General Paxton Warns Against Flood Cleanup Scams

SAN MARCOS (AP) - Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has toured some flood recovery centers and warned against price gouging and cleanup scams.
Paxton on Monday visited emergency and volunteer centers in San Marcos and Wimberley, some of the hardest-hit areas of recent deadly flooding.
Paxton advises storm victims to ask contractors for references and be cautious of operators from outside of the affected areas.
Hays County is among 70 Texas counties under a state disaster declaration. More than 30 people were killed in Texas and Oklahoma last month by storms that dropped record rainfall, stranding people and even livestock.
A weather-related cattle drive happened Sunday in Dayton, 30 miles northeast of Houston. Several hundred cattle were herded from water-surrounded land to a railroad yard, an interim dry spot while flooding eases.
