TX AG Says FWISD Transgender Policy Violates State Law

FORT WORTH (CBS11) - There are new calls from Austin for Fort Worth ISD's superintendent to step down.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick renewed his campaign Tuesday to oust Dr. Kent Scriber after Attorney General Ken Paxton issued an opinion on the district's transgender policy.
In the non-binding opinion, Paxton suggested the policy, which says students can use the bathroom for the gender they identify with, violates Texas law.
Scribner says the FWISD school board passed the policy before he took the job.
On Tuesday night at the school board meeting, Scribner addressed the policy and said changes are being made.
"I'm confident that the revised version will reinforce parent voice and will result in a more robust action and commitment to involve parents in this and all other matters," said Scribner.
Lt. Gov. Patrick says if the superintendent doesn't strip away the policy, he needs to resign.
"I would hope that the school board and the superintendent would understand that it is not setting the proper example or model for students to break the law in the school system," said Patrick.
