Two Dead In Head-On Crash On Highway 287 Near Midlothian

MIDLOTHIAN (CBSDFW.COM) - Two people died in a head-on crash on Highway 287 at Rex Odom Road just southeast of Midlothian.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 287 there are shut down.

Police were chasing a suspect driving a vehicle stolen from Waxahachie.

The driver of the stolen vehicle crossed over the median and struck a vehicle heading east on Highway 287.

The drivers of both vehicles died at the scene.

Waxahachie Police tell us this started as a stolen vehicle report at a construction site shortly before 1:00 p.m.

Police say the owner of the van was able to track the stolen van with some type of GPS device or OnStar. An Ellis County Deputy intercepted the stolen van at about 1:12 p.m. in the FM 878/879 area out in the county's jurisdiction. The deputy chased the van back into Waxahachie.  The pursuit went north on Hwy 287 Bypass near the Midlothian/Waxahachie airport the suspect began driving northbound in the southbound lane and struck a southbound vehicle head on at approximately. 1:21 p.m.
