DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Two people died early Tuesday after fire swept through a home in the Red Bird area of Dallas.

Intense flames were shooting from the house on Havenwood Drive when firefighters first arrived around 2:15 a.m.

Three ambulances were called to the scene, along with extra firefighting equipment.

According to officials, after making their way through burglar bars on the front porch, as well as the front door, firefighters found the body of an elderly man lying on the floor in the middle of the home. He was quickly removed and taken to Parkland Hospital where he later died.

A short time after discovering the first victim, firefighters found an older woman, dead at the rear of the house.

The names of the victims have not been released. Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson Jason Evans says the couple's dog died in the flames as well.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
