Turning Very Windy for Thursday
The clouds Wednesday have been stubborn and have stayed with us all day. You can feel more humidity in the air. It will be a very mild overnight with clouds hanging out, along with some drizzle and fog by Thursday morning.
By late morning, a Pacific cold front will move thru the area. There's not terribly cold air behind it, but it will bring a lot of wind for Thursday.
There will be a small window from 8am to 11am for a brief shower with the front, most of that well east of the DFW area. Most of us won't see a drop of rain on Thursday.
The upper level winds do favor a severe weather outbreak across the Midwest and Deep South Thursday afternoon into Thursday night. Could have a few tornadoes and large hail, but not in Texas.
The main threat in North Texas on Thursday is from grass fires. The wind will be very gusty out of the northwest behind the front. The air will dry out rapidly and the ground is already quite dry. It won't take much for a small fire to quickly spread, given the conditions. Avoid outdoor burning and don't throw those cigarette butts out the window.
Friday and Saturday will be cooler but still mild for late February. A stronger push a cooler air for Sunday, which is trending cooler than it was the past couple of days.
