WAXAHACHIE (CBSDFW.COM) - A truck fire caused a portion of highway to shut down early Tuesday morning in Ellis County, just south of Waxahachie. The 18-wheeler caught on fire along the southbound side of Interstate-35E, between Highway 77 and FM 329.

The truck driver appears to have realized that something was wrong with his load, because he pulled over to the shoulder of the highway before the fire could cause too much damage. The driver disconnected his cab from the trailer and moved away.

The trailer portion caught on fire, and emergency crews arrived quickly to extinguish the blaze. Workers remained on the scene Tuesday morning to monitor hot spots and remove contents from the trailer.

There were no injuries reported in this incident.

The southbound side of the interstate was shut down while firefighters were on the scene. Some lanes began to open back up to traffic throughout the morning. Check the traffic map for the latest information and alternate routes.
