VAN (CBSDFW.COM) - "We thought we were going to die," said Angela Reed looking at her parents' dismantled home in Van, Texas.

Reed and her family were inside the home Sunday evening when they heard the town's tornado sirens.

They immediately took cover in the hallway. Moments later the tornado hit.

Reed has a hard time describing what happened next without crying.

"The house picked up from its foundation and started ripping apart," she said. "Then it landed again with the debris falling on us."

Reed said she had to literally hold onto her children so they wouldn't be pulled into the storm.

"We were lucky that we are alive because it was trying to suck us out of the house," she said.

While her parents' home will likely have to be torn down, Reed's home just a couple streets away was flattened.

"It's not there," she said. "It's gone."
