Local Cop Doubles As Boxing Champ

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) – A city of Irving police officer can now add boxing champion to his resume.
Michael Rios is a School Resource Officer at Jack E. Singley Academy, and he recently won the title of Champion in the "35 And Over Division" at the Ringside Masters Championship in Kansas.
Rios said he grew up boxing as a teen and didn't think he would box again at this stage in his life.
"I thought I was going to have to hang up my gloves once I started police work, but through the PAL program it helped me to fulfill one of my dream," said Rios.
Rios was motivated to pick up his gloves again and return to training by the same kids he helps mentor both at Singley Academy and at the police boxing gym.
"I get a chance to help out with the younger kids, but I also get a chance to show what I've got," said Rios about the influence the youngsters have had on him.
Now that he is a champion again he plans on defending his title later this summer.
