DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Tony Romo's lawsuit against the National Football League heads to a Dallas court Monday.
The Cowboys quarterback and his partners are suing the league for more than $10 million, according to their attorney, after the NFL forced Romo to cancel his National Fantasy Football Convention.
On Monday the NFL will ask a judge in a hearing on a summary judgement to dismiss the suit.
Meanwhile, lawyers for the NFFC have filed paperwork to depose league commission Roger Goodell. The NFL has filed a motion to block that request.
This past summer, Romo organized a fantasy football convention to take place in Las Vegas.
According to the lawsuit, the NFL threatened to fine or suspend the nearly hundred NFL players that were supposed to attend the event stating attendance would violate the NFL's gambling policy that prohibits players from attending events at gambling venues.
The event was to take place at a convention center attached to the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino.
Romo's attorney Julie Pettit said the NFL gambling rules are ambiguous and inconsistently enforced.
Pettit said she believes the NFL had an alternative motive for forcing the cancellation of the event.
"The NFL has always been a bully and is being a bully in this situation as well," she said. "The NFL, we believe, put an end to the event or made the NFFC cancel the event because they weren't getting a piece of the pie. The NFL is always pro-gambling, always pro fantasy, or anything related to gambling except in this incident when they weren't getting a cut in it."
