FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A 3-year-old boy is recovering at Cook Children's Medical Hospital from serious injuries after he was struck by a car this afternoon.

It happened in the 3900 block of Freddie Street on the southeast side of Fort Worth.

The toddler was playing in his front yard when his toy rolled into the street. He ran after it and was hit by a 2007 or 2008 black Chevrolet Impala driven by a black male. The car stopped momentarily after striking the child but then fled the scene.

EMS said the boy was alert when they picked him up and should make a full recovery.

Traffic Investigation detectives are conducting the investigation.
