Toddler Rescued From Hot Car In Crowley

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A grandmother, who has been accused of leaving her 2-year-old granddaughter in a hot car, is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday. Deborah Reece faces a charge of child endangerment causing bodily harm, a second-degree felony.

The incident happened the parking lot of Walmart store in Crowley at around 5:40 p.m. on Monday evening, and the child was inside of the car for nearly an hour. Temperatures in and around Crowley at that time were nearly 100 degrees. The car's engine was turned off and the windows were rolled all the way up.

Two women noticed the child crying inside of the hot vehicle. After waiting for a few minutes, and seeing that nobody was returning to the car, one of the women was able to open the door, unbuckle the safety seat and rescue the small girl. They then took the child to a police officer.

The 50-year-old grandmother told authorities that she simply forgot about the girl inside of the car after the toddler had fallen asleep. When those women rescued the child, they said that her hair and clothes were wet and sweaty.

The child is now being treated at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth. A spokesperson for the Crowley Police Department stated that the girl is expected to be okay.
