Today's CBSDFW Storm Team Blog: Weekend Rain Chances & Next Week's Outlook

There is more of the same for today's weather feature:  hot and humid.  It will be breezy as well...with south winds up to 20-25 mph.  Heat index numbers near 100° during the afternoon.  These temperatures are running about 5 degrees above normal for early September.

There is enough tropical moisture in place for a few pop-up showers and storms in our southeastern counties this afternoon.  Chance of a shower in the immediate Metroplex is close to zero.  This is the case Thursday and Friday too.

Rain chances increase as a weak cold front approaches on Saturday.  Nothing widespread expected, but there will be a few more showers around for the start of the weekend.

Sunday will also include a 20-30% chance of rain as that weak front pretty much washes out over North Texas.

With the extra cloud cover and better shot at rain this weekend, we'll experience slightly cooler temperatures Saturday and especially Sunday.  Temps will still be at or above normal through the weekend.

Looking beyond the seven day forecast into next week, we still see above normal temperatures in North Texas and southern United States.

With abundant moisture in place in the eastern U.S. and in the Desert Southwest (thanks in part to Norbert), there will be above normal rainfall in these regions.  We may see a better rain chance of more widespread rainfall by the end of next week.

Join Larry Mowry for the forecast later this afternoon at 4, 5, and 6pm on CBS11.
