TMS Ponies Up For Retiring NASCAR Icon Jeff Gordon

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) — Texas Motor Speedway gave NASCAR icon Jeff Gordon a little going away gift. Or two.

The four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion will hit the track in Fort Worth for the last time on Sunday, prior to retiring. To honor the No. 24-car driver, TMS President Eddie Gossage presented Gordon with two Shetland ponies for his children, 8-year-old Ella and 5-year-old Leo, on Friday "to help their dad ride off into the sunset," TMS said.

Gordon welcomed Scout, a 300-pound black-and-white paint pony, and Smoky, a 400-pound dapple-colored pony, into the family.

"You have lost it. ... Oh, my God," Gordon said to Gossage, according to a press release. "You are unbelievable. Oh my God. ... These are going to look good in my backyard in Charlotte."

Gossage also presented Gordon with Luskey's cowboy boots — emblazoned with No. 24, his signature and a TMS logo on each — a Gordon Road street sign and a commissioned mural depicting his 2009 win at TMS.

"[Gordon] was the most transformative driver our sport has seen," Gossage said, according to the press release. "He won races and championships while changing the perception of people around the globe about NASCAR race car drivers."

Gordon's final start at TMS happens in Sunday's AAA Texas 500.
