FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - More than a dozen country artists performed at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth Wednesday to a crowd of more than 4,000 people, raising over $150,000 for the families of Dallas officers killed and wounded in this month's ambush attack.

"Its just broken everyone's hearts what these families are going through. We just wanna love on them a little bit, and hopefully we can make a little bit of a difference in their lives," said Kelly Lang, one of the night's performers.

Donations to the Dallas Police Association's 501c3 charity, 'Assist The Officer', have overwhelmed officers managing the account, who have yet to tally how much they've taken in this month. "We're still getting checks in; we're still counting checks," said DPA president Ron Pinkston, referencing numerous fundraising efforts. "Little kids selling lemonade on the side of street to Billy Bob's throwing an event like this."

Pinkston said the association's staff doesn't take a dime for administration costs, allowing 100 percent of the money raised to go to families of the officers affected by the tragedy.
How the money is used is left to the discretion of those receiving it.

He said several checks have gone out already.

Colleagues witnessing the show of support said it's helping them too.

"It makes officers feel good just seeing that people care and for so long it felt like nobody did care about law enforcement," said Pinkston. "The outpouring they're getting has been the energy that's kept them going."
