COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Former Harris County prosecutor Nicole DeBorde has been appointed as the third lead prosecutor in the financial crimes cases against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

On the same day that Paxton appeared in a Tarrant County courtroom, where he pleaded not guilty to security fraud charges, DeBorde was formerly appointed in Collin County to "investigate and prosecute any cases concerning Ken Paxton."

So while the prosecution team grew in the case against the AG, Paxton's defense team shrunk to nothing, with attorney Joe Kendall saying he and his firm were withdrawing from their high-profile client because of differences.

DeBorde's website says that many of her nearly 20 years as a lawyer have been spent as a prosecutor with the Harris County DA's office.

She now is a criminal defense lawyer in Houston, where her website says, "Whether you stand charged with DWI, an Internet crime or assault, you'll benefit from her limitless energy and knowledge."

Now, according to records filed in Collin County, she'll be spending much of her time prosecuting the cases against the state's top lawman.
