The Leadoff

*Here's the latest installment of "Just Hangin'" with Sam Dyson.

*Rangers LHP Cole Hamels joined Ben and Skin, as did RF Shin-Soo Choo.

Covering the Bases

*Prince Fielder has been diagnosed with sleep apnea and is now wearing a breathing mask wehn he sleeps. According to Fielder, an extreme case of sleep apnea is when you stop breathing 30 times in an hour. He tested at 39 times. Here's more from Gerry Fraley (DMN).

*Shawn Tolleson has a unique coffee routine according to Jeff Wilson (FWST). On the health front, he'll throw live BP tomorrow.

*Ryan Rua turned 26 today

On the Bump

*Jeremy Guthrie is competing for a spot in the rotation and made his second appearance today. He gave up a run on a leadoff home run but then got six outs with no other damage in his two innings. He's still an underdog to make the club, but I definitely like how he fills up the zone.

*Tony Barnette got rocked to the tune of two runs on FOUR hits in one inning. Not a great appearance, but Barnette, who signed a two-year deal, is likely to crack the Opening Day roster anyway.

At the Dish

*Joey Gallo (2-for-3, HR) hit an absolute bomb to right field in Maryvale. More important, maybe, he continues to work the count and demonstrate more patience and better discipline. In all three plate appearances today, he saw at least four pitches and saw at least a two-ball count.

In the Field

*Brewers prospect, Keon Broxton, took an extra base on Delino DeShields when he hit what appeared to be a single to just left of center. Delino's arm is something teams might try and expose throughout the season.

*Ryan Cordell made a tremendously athletic play chasing down a drive to the 400-foot mark of a deep right-center field in Maryvale. Not many can make the play he made. He's got great upside if he can improve plate discipline and bat control (73 K in 56 games at AA-Frisco)
