Texas Rangers fans struggling to find, buy World Series tickets

The struggle is real for Rangers fans looking for World Series tickets

ARLINGTON (CBSNewsTexas.com) — The Texas Rangers are going to the World Series and fans are living the dream as they watch their team advance.

"I didn't expect for us to be this good, but it's a great surprise," Rangers fan Jared Lim said.

Now, the next biggest battle for fans is finding a ticket to go to a game.

"Tried refreshing, refreshing just to see anything," Lim said. "Sometimes, like two tickets would pop up...I would add to cart and nothing would happen."

He woke up early Tuesday to try and get a ticket on the team's official website, but the four scheduled home games were sold out after he got kicked out of the virtual waiting room.

Just standing inside Globe Life Field for Friday night's Game 1 of the World Series will cost attendees a minimum of $478, according to CBS News Texas' search of online ticket sellers.

"I think that's a lot," Lim said. "I feel like having actual seats, and standing room only, I'd probably pay $300."

Lower level seats range from $1,000 to $3,000 a ticket depending how close they are to home plate.

Some suites are being offered starting at $18,000 and reaching as high as $89,000, with a list of perks that include a clear view of the action.

Whatever the price, authorities urge fans to only go through reputable sellers before spending big money.

The tips they offered? Use trusted websites, don't go to scalpers or purchase tickets over social media.

"We understand that a lot of folks want to go to these games...if you're looking for tickets and the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is," Tim Ciesco with the Arlington Police Department said.

Despite going to two ALCS games and not having luck getting World Series ticket, Lim said he's not throwing in the towel just yet.

"Maybe some connections could be there, definitely keep trying to see a ticket because it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Lim said.

The Texas Rangers website said more tickets may be available for games soon.
