DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Texas lawmaker is renewing an effort to build toll roads then get rid of the tolls as soon as they're paid off.

"We have toll roads that are not at their capacity, meaning they could handle two to three times the traffic on them. Open them up to more traffic, less congestion," said House Transportation Chairman Joe Pickett, D-El Paso

Representative Pickett isn't opposed to new toll roads especially in the fastest growing parts of the state. However, he does think eventually getting rid of the tolls will make driving better for everyone.

Most agencies -- including the NTTA said they keep tolling for maintenance and upkeep, and to build new roads in the future.
