Texas Jobless Rate Up Slightly In May

AUSTIN (AP) - The Texas unemployment rate rose slightly in May to reach 4.3 percent.

The Texas Workforce Commission on Friday announced that compares to a statewide jobless rate of 4.2 percent in April, which was the same as March. Unemployment nationwide last month was 5.5 percent.

Commission officials in Austin say Texas gained 33,200 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs in May, bringing the over-the-year total to 286,400 jobs added.

Amarillo had the state's lowest jobless rate during May at 2.9 percent. The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area had the highest statewide unemployment last month at 7.2 percent.
