Texas AG Meets FWISD Parents Upset Over Transgender Bathroom Policy

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 NEWS) - Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton joined outraged parents and Fort Worth residents to protest the Fort Worth Independent School District's transgender bathroom rules, which allow students to use restrooms "consistent with their gender identity."
"My offices is looking at what we can do as a state," said Paxton. "We're doing that this week."
They want Superintendent Kent Scribner to step aside and allow the school board a chance to vote on the guidelines announced last month.
"It's not my religious values," said parent Alison Kelley. "It's not me being conservative. It's about the parent having a voice."
School board members have announced the plans for four public forums to be held as early as next month.
Dr. Scribner would not comment on school board's conversations but confirmed his stance on the issue, saying in a statement, the "policy helps protect kids from bullying… nothing more, nothing less."
"We believe in representation," said parent Debbie Dena.
She thinks that a vote from the board is the only way the issue will be resolved.
"That's what this country is built upon. Why have elected officials if a top down bureaucrat is going to make the decision," Dena said.
Board members hope to have the first public forum during the first week of June.
