FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) -- Two teenagers were seriously hurt after fleeing from police and crashing near a gas station in Fort Worth.

Officers were performing a routine traffic stop when the driver refused to pull over around 2 a.m. After continuing slowly, the car suddenly sped up and the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle hit a pole in the 3000 block of Hemphill.

The teens became trapped in the wreckage and were extricated by firefighters. They were taken to John Peter Smith Hospital with serious injuries.

It was determined the driver of the vehicle was a 14-year-old male, while the only passenger was a 14-year-old female.
