Teen released from surgery after being shot at recreational center

Teen shot at Arlington pool in critical condition

ARLINGTON (CBSNewsTexas.com) - A teenage girl has been released from surgery at a local hospital Wednesday after Arlington police officers found her with a gunshot wound at the Dottie Lynn Recreational Center.

Authorities say she was taken from the scene in critical condition, but after surgery medical staff believes she will survive. Detectives have not had the opportunity to speak with her, yet.

Around 4:20 a.m., officers responded to the scene where they found the girl wounded in the pool area. Tim Ciesco with APD says authorities believe a group of teens jumped the fence at the pool, which is closed for the season, and at some point while they were gathered there, the victim was shot. It remains unclear what led to the shooting and who fired the shot.

However, two teens who were believed to have been near the pool when the shooting occurred were taken to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center. Officers also recovered a firearm.

Although investigators are still working to determine whether the firearm was used in the shooting, one teenage girl was arrested for unlawful carrying of a weapon, evading and criminal trespass. Meanwhile, the second teen, a boy, was also arrested for criminally trespassing.

Detectives believe there were several other teens at the scene of the shooting. They're asking anyone with information to contact Det. Wheetley at (817) 459-5678.
