Teen Accused Of Killing Parents To Remain At Juvenile Center
FRISCO (CBS 11 NEWS) - A teenager accused of murdering his parents will remain in the Collin County Juvenile Detention Center, at least for the next 10 business days. The decision was made after a brief hearing on Tuesday.
The 16-year-old is not being identified because he is a juvenile. He is accused in the murders of Ryan Callens, 48, and 49-yer-old Maria Elena Callens.
According to Frisco police, the couple was found dead when officers responded to a shots fired called in the 12000 block of Shepard's Hill Lane.
According to testimony at the hearing, a Frisco police officer overheard the suspect's sister ask, "What do you mean you did it?" The accused teen responded, "I did it."
The sister then asked, "Was this your plan?" The officer at the scene did not hear a response from the boy, who was later taken into custody by police.
Testimony also revealed that officers at the scene found a rifle with a flashlight taped to it.
The body of Ryan Callens was found on the floor with a gunshot wound. Maria Elena Callens was found in bed. She had gunshot wounds to her head and arm.
A second court hearing is scheduled in about two weeks.
While the investigation into the murders continues the motive for the shootings remains unclear.
Neighbors say the accused teen had been home-schooled for much of his life.
