Taxpayers Still Paying Bills For Former FWISD Superintendent
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 NEWS) - Former Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Walter Dansby hasn't worked since June 9th, when he suddenly resigned. But if you live in the Fort Worth school district, you're still paying for things like his car and cell phone bill.
Walter Dansby walked away from the district's top spot with a severance package of over $900,000. But when the CBS 11 I-Team asked for the details of that package, the district refused to release anything. They even took our request to the Texas Attorney General's Office, asking for permission to withhold the information. In the end, they were forced to hand it over.
Here are a few of the benefits included in the former superintendent contract that the district agreed to honor:
· Car allowance - $600 dollars a month
· Cell phone allowance - $60 dollars a month
· Memberships - $5,811.07 a year
CBS 11 I-Team Investigator Mireya Villarreal obtained documents that show how Dansby fought to keep his job, in the months before he resigned.
In a letter to the board, Dansby responded to his last evaluation that didn't go so well. He was docked for things such as graduation rates, development and deployment of the mission and strategic plan, and external stakeholder satisfaction.
Dansby said the board did not conduct the evaluation in a fair manner, and he believed the evaluation was "based on individual biases and not on performance."
Information the I-Team got a hold of shows Dansby was also given a very nice letter of recommendation from the board, complimenting him on his hard work, ethics, dedication and diligence.
So, even though the board forced him to resign, they still gave him a going away present.
Despite our efforts to contact Dansby's attorney, no one got back to us. The district chose not to comment about this new information.
